To make sure these two decor items exist in harmony, the pillow color should complement the colors of the rug, while the scale of the pillow’s pattern should contrast with the rug’s pattern.

We love using rugs over carpet in our design projects and thought we’d compile a few fun layered looks to inspire your own home décor projects. We softened this play area with a super plush, touchable rug. Parents can appreciate the extra cushion this faux sheepskin rug provides during storytime. Don’t be surprised to find your pet adopting this cozy space! We love this soft, imaginative look that provides both texture and function.

The blue & white rug defines space while functioning as extra protection from accidental spills in the craft room. We purposefully tied the rug into the feel and color of the bench accent pillows to give the room continuity. We love this fun patterned look!

We wanted this baby’s room to feel extra soft and imaginative, so layering a rug on top of the carpet fit well with our intention! An added bonus is the visual and tactile stimulation for your little one during playtime.

We created a little dimension in this master bedroom by layering in a rug with a bit more shag. We wanted the focal point of the room to be this fabulous wall treatment, and we think this subtle technique accomplished that! A simple way to add an “instant cozy” feeling.

It’s that time of year again! Sherwin Williams names 2021 Color of the Year URBANE BRONZE. We’re familiar with using this color in designs like the master bedroom at Opus by Warmington Residential in Irvine. What do you think of this bold, minimalist color? We think the easiest way to make a statement is with paint. The grey, almost black, Urbane Bronze (SW 7048) created the mood and helped the art pop! How would you use this paint color in your home? 7 Inspirational Applications for Decorative Tile at Rancho Soleo Model Homes

Using decorative tile in unexpected areas of the home is one of our favorite growing interior design trends at Design Tec. Accent tiles that were once reserved for kitchen or bathroom backsplashes are now featured in every room of the home. In our recent model home installation at Rancho Soleo for TRI Pointe Homes in Temecula, we took advantage of this trend to add texture and pattern to a variety of unanticipated surfaces. Today we’re rounding up these images so you might find design inspiration for your own home!

1) Step by Step

The geometric-patterned accent tile creatively used on the riser of the stairway at the entry of this model home immediately grabs the attention of guests as they arrive. In this modern Spanish style home with bright white walls, smooth wood floors, and dark ceiling beams, the tile’s unique pattern creates an updated twist on a Mediterranean style architectural element.

2) Bold and Neutral

A decorative, full backsplash that wraps around the length of the kitchen adds a dramatic focal point to a neutral kitchen. The bronze tone cabinet hardware and decorative pendants were selected to intentionally complement the color and texture of the backsplash. The tile chosen here echoes the tile in the entry in color and style of the home without being too close to a match.

3) Marble Spa Bath

This master bathroom is a soothing grey and white masterpiece. Calacatta marble tile used in different shapes and sizes is consistent on the floors, walls, and on the shower walls. We love the mosaic shower wall tile, as it gives interest and defines the space of the shower. Imagine creating a spa experience like this to enjoy every day!

4) Playing with Pattern

Casa Cielo is the community clubhouse at Rancho Soleo where residents gather with family and friends to celebrate special occasions, watch sporting events, and take a dip in the pool. The patterned backsplash in the kitchen space seen here illustrates the fun spirit of entertaining with warm tones to create an inviting ambiance. You can see the Spanish influence of the architecture in this tile and in the overall theme of the space. This wall tile is the perfect conversation-starter.

The unexpected tile in this gorgeous modern kitchen screams, “Made you look!” Flipping the script on traditional design concepts inspired the turquoise hexagon mosaic to show up on the kitchen island of this model home, adding a bright pop of color and a coastal vibe. Kitchen islands are the focal point of an open concept kitchen, so we thought we’d dress this one up in style!

6) Floor Accents

This rather spacious master bathroom at Cerro at Rancho Soleo presented an opportunity to create a pattern in the bath floor, adding interest in an otherwise neutral space.

In this two-story Great Room, we created this epic accent wall with a gorgeous wood-look ceramic tile. This innovative alternative to real wood offers a much less expensive and effective end result, while still giving that modern rustic aesthetic we were going for in Temecula.
